Hi guys,
Just a reminder that the AGM and end of term meal are tomorrow (Weds 11th) night.
The meeting starts at 6pm, if you can meet outside St. Hilda's college that would be fab.
The meal will be at 7.30 pm at the Mirch Masala on Cowley Road and it'll cost £10.
So far we've got approx. 30 people coming. If you'd still like to come but haven't emailed then it's still not too late if you an email me by the end of today. If you haven't yet emailed I won't have you on the list - even if you are committee!
* Remember it's no longer bring your own, so you can buy alcohol from the bar.
Afterwards the plan is to hit Fuzzy Ducks, it's going to be an absolutely massive end of term party - likely to get very messy. They have advised to get tickets in advance because it's likely to sell out, but you can pop down to the box office for the 02/Carling Academy without any problems before Wednesday night.
See you all tomorrow,
Emily & Sarah
Well this may be the last email you all get from me... or nearly the last...
Training this week - tonight as normal, watch out for notices re friday and saturday. Tonight - Zac's sponsored spar will be taking place - please give your encouragement and be wary to keep clear of the sparring area.
Don't forget the AGM and dinner on wednesday. We still need a couple of people to run for social secretaries - not a major amount of work, but vital to the club's ethos. It is not too late - and a really fun committee position to take on. I am looking forward to floods of nominations throughout the day.
PLEASE do come along to the AGM and dinner. This week is Zac's last as our student coach, and it would be a good way for you to show your appreciation for everything he has done by having a packed AGM (which will point to a strong future for OUKBC, especially when we have social secretaries as well), and a well attended dinner.
Nick
Dear all
Our annual general meeting will be held at St Hilda's College - meet at 6pm at the porters' lodge on Wednesday 11th March.
I am obliged to give you notice of those running for the major committee posts. These are:
President -Patricia Sullivan
Secretary - Kate Wood
Treasurer -Naoya Koda
We still URGENTLY need people to come forward to act as social secretaries and IT. If you will be around next year and sparring/fighting please also consider squad captaincy.
Social secs: We will propose a pair rather than individual (as Em and Sarah found it fun to work together), and this will also make the proposed inclusion of Kit officer into these roles less burdensome as it can be shared (Kit officer has been a pretty crappy post in the past, and will propose better merged into a combined social role, and probably not done every term, maybe only once a year). The job really IS fun and not too much work - organising a termly dinner (inviting deloitte reps, doing the awards) and the odd mid term bar crawl etc. The club NEEDS its social events - they are really important. So please if you will be around next year consider giving back to a club which gives you a lot and run for the position!
IT officer: Someone is needed (with a webmail account) to maintain the email lists and be a primary link with OUCS. This is not a major amount of work, but can mean you can be part of the committee - we need a reasonable committee size to make good decisions and for things like Freshers' Fair. If you want to contribute to the club, and the CV points, but are worried about the time commitment, this may be the post for you. This position does NOT require regular maintenance or update of our website.
Self-nominations to me ASAP please!
Nick
Congratulations to our fighters! We did very well (again) at the Uni champs this year. The clubis proud of ALL our fighters who took to the ring on our behalf. Many won several fights, and in particular we should note Saraansh holding his title for the second year running, and Borna showing great control to take a title for the first time. Our strong performance is testament to the commitment and skills of our fighters, and to Zac's endless support and skills as our coach. Big up Zac, too!
Training as normal this week. Don't forget to respond to Zac and offer sponsorhip for his sparring session. He has done so much for the club, why not give back, enjoy watching him tire (if indeed he ever tires!), and help people in East Timor at the same time?
Don't forget AGM and dinner weds of next week - details to follow.
We are still looking for a couple of people to be the social secretaries for next year, and someone to undertake the minor commitment of IT officer (essentially updating the mailing lists). Anyone going for any committee position needs to email me by wednesday so I can send notice out in accordance with the constitution. For the social and IT positions, nominations can come in later if necessary. If you will be around next year PLEASE step up and do something for the club. The work involved is totally manageable, and it can be very rewarding too.
Nick
Hi everyone
Varsity champions 3rd year in a row! Congratulations to ALL the fighters - the club is proud to support everyone who gets up in the ring on behalf of OUKBC. Thanks to those who came to support and did a good job responding to the Tab's cheers.
Training as normal this week but not coming Sunday [uni champs instead]. you know the times by now.
Uni Champs are taking place next sunday - 1 march. There are seats available on the minibus if you want to come along - it's a great day out, fun to watch and learn from the fights, and really important for our fighters to have good support. Let me know if you are interested.
PLEASE also think about joining the committee next year - we only have a couple of people expressing interest as of yet - it's not too much work and if there is not a committee quite simply there won't be a club. So if you will be around until march 2010 please consider standing for a position.
Our AGM will be on Weds 8th week (11th march; venue and time TBC) followed by our end of term dinner. the AGM is very important - we elect new committee and make big decisions about the club - and we need a large quorum so make sure you can be there.
See you at training
Nick
Morning all,
Last night OUKBC won the 3rd Varsity Kickboxing to remain undefeated against Cambridge. It was a much harder fought contest this year - cambridge came out much harder and much fitter than last year when we wiped the floor with them. The final fight tally was 5-4.
Huge congratulations to all the fighters - I'm very proud of all of you, and thanks to all the supporters who made the trip.
The most important thing now is to PARTY!
Tonight at my house from 9pm
Address as per email
We'll be watching all the action from last night.
Ring me if you get lost.
see you tonight!
Zac
Hi guys,
Just a quick reminder about the OUKBC Sports Day social this Wednesday 18th (5th Week). It'll be 'kicking' off at St. Hilda's college bar between 7-8pm, then moving on from there.
We've been planning lots of events for the night, so even if you're not drinking, it'll still be heaps of fun - so come along and wish all the fighters good luck at Varsity!
And remember, fancy dress is central.... we're thinking plimsolls, bibs, hockey socks and gym pants... but please give them an airing out first! If you've got school ties or scarves, please bring them along for some of the challenges :)
We'll be ending the night down at Park End (Lava&Ignite), so feel free to meet us later on, if you can't make it any earlier.
There's loads of new members to the club and it'd be great to get to know everyone, so you're doubly invited if your new, oh and be sure to join our Facebook group!
Give us a ring if you get lost or confused!

P.S - Stash I'm just picking up the last of the stash; just the bags and a couple of girls' fitted tees. The rest is all in the shed in a big brown box, for you to collect.
I still have about ten people that haven't paid yet and it all needs to be sorted by the end of term. Give me an email if you can't remember how much or what you ordered!
Hello all,
Hoppers is away this week so I am sending the weekly email, the most important
of which is of course varsity and the post-varsity party! Note the alteration to
training times as a result.
1. Training times:
Tomorrow 3pm beginners sparring, 4pm advanced
Mon 6pm as usual in the hall
Fri NO TRAINING as we will be busy crushing Cambridge
Sat 1.30pm all in dojo
Sun 3pm beginners sparring 4pm advanced
2. Varsity - if you are coming to watch Nick will send round details of travel arrangements. The minibus will be leaving at 2.30 from the sports centre.
3. Post-varsity party! To celebrate our victory, there will be a party at my house next Saturday evening, where we will be showing the fights from the previous night. Time: 9pm onwards Place: 91 Percy St
4. Sports day social on wednesday - Emily and Sarah will send a reminder of arrangements
5. Sparring kit - any requests let me know before the end of tomorrow as I will be ordering on monday.
see you at training
Zac
Hi everyone,
Hope everyone's ok. A few details you may find interesting...
Give me a shout if you need to discuss any of the above!
Thanks and take care,
Luke
Morning all,
final details and preparations for varsity:
1. Training - the ideal training schedule for the final week is as follows:
today - sparring/pads
tomorrow - sparring
mon - pads
tue - rest
wed - light sparring, which we'll have at 3pm and some pads
thur - rest
2. On the day - we'll be leaving at 2.30pm on friday.
a) Make sure you have:
- your licence, see me urgently if you haven't got one
- your sparring kit excluding gloves
- found a headguard you like and doesn't keep coming off
- water bottle; don't turn up at ring side with anything other than water
- a towel; I don't envisage it happening but occasionally one has to throw the
towel in, in which case I need to a towel to do it with, and also for cleaning
off bloody noses
- food, but don't eat anything for 2 hours before you fight
b) WIN!
c) dave and luke will hopefully be happy to be your number 2 in the corner; i'll
be at ringside the whole time but you need someone to walk out with you and
carry your towel, bottle etc, let you in the ring, adjust your box, wipe your
nose etc - all things that the novelty of doing has worn off for me, but will be
exciting for other people.
3. Be prepared to get hammered on saturday to celebrate our victory! Any last minute concerns or questions, let me know.
Zac
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As your child may have informed you, the OUKBC Sports Day has now been confirmed for Wednesday 18th February (5th Week).
Please make sure your child arrives punctually at St. Hilda's college bar, between 7-8pm (coincidentally happy hour too!).
We have planned a selection of exciting sporting events throughout the evening, as we move on through more stop off points, and everyone will have the opportunity to win prizes!
Due to the very "special" nature of this year's Sports Day, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately; correct P.E kit or school attire is required.
You are welcome to join us afterwards at the Champions disco at Park End for some more light refreshments and a bit of the 'ole Hokey Kokey.
If you happen to have ties or scarves, please bring them along.
We look forward to an 'eventful' Sports Day 2009,
Kind Regards,
Ms. Parlour and Ms. Putz

P.S. Anyone who forgets their PE kits, will simply have to compete in vests and pants.
Hi
Thanks to all who came ice skating last week - was a fun evening. Roll on the 5th week sporting spectacular! And keep tues or weds of 8th week free for AGM and end of term [end of an era for Zac] dinner...
Training as usual this week, snow permitting. You know the times by now. You'll hear from me if there are cancellations - if not assume we are a go. There may be some extra sessions with Zac for fitness/squad - look out for messages directly from him.
Varsity - thanks to all who provided responses. Of those who expressed interest in coming to watch I have not had confirmation from the following: jemima, leanne, anna p - please let me know if you do want to come [sorry if you emailed and i lost track]
Also due to some matching issues all those who were up for a fight may not get one, unfortunately - if you were on the fight list but want to come to spectate please let me know. as it stands we have a pretty full minibus and 2 cars going which are both full so it's really important people confirm in case spaces can be offered to others.
Also very important, thinking of next year's committee! PLEASE be a keeno and get involved. It is really fun and the club really needs a committee if it is to function at all. Pres, Sec, Treasurer, Social secs (we are hoping for a pair, to combine with kit stuff), Squad, and IT. Email me and talk to the current committee if you are interested.
Nick
Hi everyone
Training as normal this week [see below] but more importantly, GET YOUR SKATES ON - Thursday is our first social of the term - ice skating at Oxford's ice rink. Look out for an email closer to the time confirming meet-up places, but if you're there for the 8pm session a good group of us definitely will be!
Monday 6pm main hall everyone
Thursday 8pm ice skating
Friday 5pm beginners / red belts, 6pm everyone else - dojo
Sat 1230 squad sparring, 1330 everyone padwork - dojo
Sparring as per email from Zac
Nick
Hello,
1. Sparring today will be as usual ie:
3pm beginners (please be ready for a 3pm start otherwise we waste lots of time messing around putting out mats and sorting out kit)
4pm advanced (likewise on being ready at 4pm).
2. Sparring kit. If any of the new comers to sparing would like to order their own kit rather than using the smelly and sweaty club kit, I will be ordering tomorrow. It typically costs around £60 depending on where I get it from andwho has the best stuff at the time.
3. Lateness. Now we are at the beginning of week 3 as Hoppers would call it, everyone should know the start times, so I will be giving out press ups as penalties for being late. This is not through any sadistic streak - if you don't arrive in time for the warm up you are putting yourself at risk of muscle strains and tears and hence not being able to train.
4. Extra training. Having acquired my degree, I don't have a lot to do now, sofor those fighting this term, I am happy to have extra training sessions. Let meknow if you are interested.
see you soon
Zac
Hey guys,
***
First social of the term is going to be a 'potentially' chilled out one;
Ice skating on Thursday of 3rd week (5th February).
We're going to the 8.00-10.30 session - if you could get there a bit in advance to get your stuff sorted that would be fab. We'll keep things open for afterwards!
Let us know if you're interested, and we'll hopefully be able to get a nice discount.
***
5th Week looks set for a night to rival last terms Superhero night...!
Grab your plimsoles and gym pants and get ready for the Kickboxing Sports Day 2009!
Traditional team events with a grown-up twist - you may even get your paws on some nice prizes!
So, whether you fancy yourself as that slightly pervy PE teacher, the snotty kid from the back of the class, or the yummy mummy; get creative with your costumes. We'll email you nearer the time with a date and all the bars and clubs we'll be hopping to :)
So if you were the egg and spoon race champion or never proved your three-legged potential now's your chance!
Tardiness will be severely punished...

Hello everyone!
I am pleased to announce that organising the OUKbC Spring Training Camp ’09 is almost complete and we’re now ready to start enlisting people!
The camp will take place from 20/03/09 to 23/03/09 and will be completely action packed so make sure you don’t miss out. What you are going to get for your money is:
- Transport
- Accommodation
- From 6 to 8 training sessions depending on travel time
- Free time activities
- A social
- And absolute loads of fun
- Moreover all sessions you attend during the camp count towards grading so there are up to 8 stamps up for grabs for each of you!
All of this for only £50!!!
If you are not convinced yet speak to one of the survivors of the last training camp, but I can tell you now – all of them will say ‘JUST GO!!!’. If you would like to watch the snippet of the DVD from the last one, have a look here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kQKhMlFFFE4
Spaces are limited and will be distributed on a first come first served basis so make sure to decide quickly or you may lose the chance to join us!
All you need to do is to contact me via email and bring a cheque for £50!*
Luke
* For organisational reasons we require an upfront payment. Please note the event will be self catered and food is not included in the cost. Just to give you an idea last year we paid £20 per head and this included supplies for the opening social. £50 is a very good estimate but it is possible that the actual price will go up to max. of £60. Should this be the case we will let you know well in advance.
Hi everyone
Great to see so many people coming along to the training sessions.
Times as usual this week
monday 6 pm sports hall everyone
friday 5-6 white and red belts, 6-7 everyone else, dojo
saturday 1230 squad sparring, 1330 everyone
sunday sparring likely to be 3-4 beginners, 4-5 others [tbc by zac]
please note!
sat 7th march - which is also sat 7th week, handily enough - OUKBC show / fights in the Union main debating chamber. Should be an awesome evening - we will be needing a squad of keen volunteers to help prepare for the event as well as fighters so please let me know if you're up for helping out on the day
Also:
varsity - if we have a firm list of people who want to go as spectators then cambridge will reserve seats for us - extras stand a chance of getting a ticket at the door but not guaranteed. My list so far is
Nick Hopwood
Jason Arora
Jemima Dooley
Alicia Holloway
Michaela Croft
Alison Evans
Leanne Cooper
Sarah Pennant
Anna Pearson
Jon Gray
If you are fighting and want your friends to come along please let me know how many people will definitely be coming to support you [ie non-members who are not getting this email]
Thanks
Nick
Hello,
a quick note about sparring on sunday:
3pm beginners - you must be either at least red belt in our club or have asked me prior to coming. Make sure you have a gumshield which you have moulded.
4pm-5.30 Advanced
see ya
Zac
hi
as so many people successfully graded last term, it was rightly pointed out to me that white belts only sessions on friday might be a bit quiet
so let's make it white and red belts [plus others towards the beginner end if you prefer the earlier slot] at 5-6, and yellow belts and above 6-7
sorry for confusion
Nick
Hi everyone
Training this week is back to the regular term times:
Monday 6pm, main sports hall, everyone
Friday 5-6pm beginners/white belts, 6-7pm everyone else, dojo
Saturday 1230-1330 sparring for squad / would-be fighters, 1330-1430 padwork everyone else, dojo
Punctuality and belts are still in fashion
On Sunday 3pm rugby 5s courts there is likely to be sparring for everyone [await confirmation nearer time from Zac], with a particular welcome to beginner or less experienced sparrers [eg. who might want to spar for grading or just to give it a try]. If you want to start sparring for the first time this term, please talk to Zac before turning up.
There will be plenty of opportunities to fight this term so please talk to Saraansh Dave and Zac if you are interested.
Also, there will be an AGM, most likely Monday of 8th week, in which we will elect new committee officers. If you are interested in getting involved in the running of the club for 2009-2010 please talk to me or other committee members.
Sarah Parlour has received the stash orders placed last term - if you ordered something and paid us already please bring your receipt with you; if not please come with a cheque for payment otherwise you won't be given your kit!
Nick
Hello,
hope everyone is well, and as excited about the upcoming term as me. Tomorrow wewill have sparring for everyone at 3pm. We now have enough matts for both 5scourts, and I won't be training (I don't really want to have 3 years of medicineknocked out of my head the day before my exams start!), so its a good time forbeginners to come along, as well the oldies.see you tomorrow/next week
Zac
Hi everyone
Welcome back to another term of training, socials, fights and whatever else we think of in the next few weeks.
Training this week:
Monday 6pm sports hall
Friday 5.30 dojo
Saturday 1pm dojo
All padwork, and all for everyone.
Now we are back in to term time, punctuality and belt-wearing are back in fashion. Need I say more?
Nick
Hello and happy new year.
Training this week:
Mon 6.15
Fri 6pm
Sat 3pm
Sun 3pm sparring
Bring sparring pads each session if you've got them as we'll prob do it at theend of each session or throughout depending on who is there.
Zac
Hello,
1. Next term there are at least 2 lots of fights so put them in your diary to
either fight or support:
Varsity - Fri 20th Feb in Cambridge
Uni champs - 1st March in Canterbury
Depending on your progress, it is possible to fight in these if you only started
this year, as long as you come training enough.
I'm also thinking we might have a big evening show here in 8th week as my (hopefully temporary) goodbye to OUKbC; if you came to varsity last year along the same lines but not against Cambridge obviously. So plenty to look forward to.
2. Training times for this week are as follows. After this week we'll switch to the vacation training list so make sure you subscribe if you are still around as times vary a bit depending on what I'm doing. Send a blank email to: kickboxing-vacation-training-subscribe@maillist.ox.ac.uk
Tues 5.30 pm 5s courts: pads then sparring to finish for those that want to
Thurs 5.30 pm 5s courts: sparring
Fri 5pm dojo: pads
Sunday 3pm 5s courts: sparring
Zac
Speaking of holidays, if you are going to be around over the vacation and want to train/keep up with all thing OUKbC, send a blank email to: kickboxing-vacation-training-subscribe(at)maillist.ox.ac.uk
We use a different mailing list over the vacations so as not to spam everyone who has gone home.
See you all tomorrow!
Andy
Hello,
a brilliant week for OUKbC this week. Congratulations to everyone involved:
Thursday - club of the year
Saturday - lots of new belts and very good standard of grading
Today - defeated Reading 7-5. An excellent performance from all our fighters; it was quite close in the middle for a while but we pulled it out in the end. A particularly impressive performance from Borna who smoothly controlled his fights to win both comfortably.
This week:
Monday - NO TRAINING due to dinner; be at the bombay for 7.30. If you still want to come, emily.putz@st-hildas might be able to squeeze you in.
Friday - just one session for everyone at 5pm
Saturday 1pm for all; sparring for last half hour for those who spar
Sunday 3pm sparring for all
If you are around over the holidays, we will still be training at slightly different times; I'll let you know the times at the end of the week. Otherwise if I don't see you, then I look forward to welcoming everyone back in the new year. Thanks to everyone, especially all the committee for making it such a great term and making my life so easy.
Zac x
Hi everyone
Just when you thought you'd heard the last of me for this term, I'm writing to tell you that you are all now members of the Oxford University Club of the Year - whether you like it or not! This reflects the amazing achievements of the club in 2007-2008, which as everyone knows can be attributed in the large part to Zac, last year's committee, and the members who made the club what it is and fought their way to numerous successes. I have cc'd Beth Wild, Sports Fed President, as I'd like to thank her and all the decision-making committee for the recognition and support they have offered the club in giving us this award, and I'm sure I can do this on behalf of all our current members. I'm particularly delighted that I had the chance to see Zac collecting a shield, given that he founded the club not that long ago. Zac, you is da man.
Nick
Hi everyone,
Please bring your grading cheques with you tonight if you are coming to training. £12 made payable to Oxford University Kickboxing Club. It's OK to get someone else to write a cheque out for you, just make sure you write your name on the back of it.
Cheers
Andy :)
Hello,
the grading schedule for this weekend will be as follows:
White to red arrive 12.30 prompt
Red to yellow and yellow to orange arrive 1.10 to warm up; be ready for 1.20
Orange and above arrive 1.30 to warm up be ready for 1.40; foot and shin pads on.
Ensure you bring your belt (if you have one), grading card and licence card if you have it; no grading without these. Grading will take place in the rugby 5s courts; one will be for warming up, the other for grading.
Zac
Hi everyone
hectic times indeed!
training as usual tonight, everyone, 6-7.15 in the main sports hall, and then friday 5-6 white belts, 6-7 everyone else.
it is particularly important for everyone who is intending to grade that you attend the relevant sessions - if you don't have enough sessions signed off you won't be able to grade. simple as that! and if you already have enough, better to come and get extra practice. and don't forget to pay your 12 quid [preferably by cheque] either...
grading will be in rugby 5s courts and will start prompt at 1230 [unless you hear otherwise] we also have sports fed ball on thursday night - there are a couple of oukbc members who are down to go but who haven't paid.... i don't want to name names so get onto it! that's an order
no training saturday because of grading, and none sunday because of fights against Reading - starting 1pm. best of luck to everyone who is grading and to all who are fighting - i for one am really proud and pleased to see so many people ready to challenge themselves and represent the club in these ways
training prob not on next monday either in lieu of end of term dinner.
nick my records of people grading [pending coach's approval in a couple of instances for those who were only added to the list this weekend] are as follows.
if you think you should be on the list please email me and cc zac.

hi
if you have emailed me that you want to grade, and you haven't heard back from me or zac explaining why it may not be possible this time, please prepare a cheque for £12 payable to oxford university kickboxing club and bring it to training with you; this covers the cost of the belt, certificate and examiner. everyone grading MUST cheque the website for required number of sessions and make sure their training card has at least that number signed off on it. these will be checked on the day and we will have to turn you away if you don't have the requisite number!
if you would like to grade and haven't yet emailed me there is still time to get your name down on the list
it will take place in the rugby 5s courts on sat 29th nov (end of 7th week) starting from 1230 - though not everyone need come at this time. when we get a schedule sorted we will send out arrival times for each belt colour.
nick
Hello my lovelies,
It's nearly the end of fifth week - yey! Which means that it's time to think about our amazing end of term dinner! It's going to be at....
The Bombay in Jericho
On Monday of 8th Week; 1st December @ 7.30 pm.
The meal will cost £12.50 ( this includes poppadoms, starter and main) - just bring the money along on the night, change is good and if you want to leave them a tip.
It's going to be bring your own alcohol/drinks/rocket fuel, though as ever I'm sure the club will source something lethal... maybe even home brew if you're lucky! Afterwards, we're going to hit some bars and later on explore Kukui... provided there's no more naked wrestling going on! End of term dinners are always guaranteed to be a fun night and a great way to get involved if it's your first social :)
If you like the idea of it, then please email: emily.putz(at)st.hildas.ox.ac.uk and let her know that you'll be coming!
Lots of Social Love
Sarah and Emily xxx
p.s. hopefully anyone whose emailed about stash has had a response, I'll bring the samples in on Monday's training session and then get the order in sometime next week.

Grading will be Saturday of 7th week - 29th November. If you want to grade you MUST email me THIS WEEK - before Friday lunchtime - telling me what belt you would like to try for. Please bear in mind this requires (i) that you have enough sessions signed off on your training card (10 if you are going for red be;t; see our website for more details), and (ii) zac feels you are ready [especially for those going for higher belts].
Grading is a really nice way to feel like you are making progress, and to have your skills recognised. It is not a horrible exam, but a fun and formative way to show what you can do and learn where to improve. Red belt also means you can give sparring a try.
We have to be strict when it comes to grading. If you haven't renewed your membership, or if you don't have the card signed off, you won't be grading. Simple as that. Same will apply to paying (we will email those of you who are grading with details of the modest cost involved).
Another date for your diary: Sunday 7th week - fights against Reading - please do come along and support our squad of fighters!
And don't forget Monday 8th week for end of term dinner!
Nick
Hi everyone
Good to see so many people in such great costumes on Wednesday!
Training this week:
Monday 6-7.30pm Dojo everyone
Friday 5pm white belts/beginners; 6pm red belts and above - Dojo
Saturday squad sparring begins 1230 [warmed and kitted up by then please],
padwork for everyone else 1330.
Sunday - to be confirmed.
I must remind EVERYONE they MUST either renew their membership and licence, or do these for the first time, and you all MUST bring your training cards and get them signed - most importantly so we know you are all insured, and also so we know you have all paid!
Please also note the email from Sarah this week about stash - and look out for news on forthcoming socials. Those of you who are coming along to the sports fed ball (there is still chance to reserve a place if you haven't already) - please send your cheques off ASAP to Beth Wild at Sports Fed.
Nick
Hi everyone,
This year Sports Fed have decided to opt with Canterbury for our sports stash, which means that again we've got a really good quality brand of club clothing. We're keeping the colour and designs to look as similar to last year's Dark Blue stash.
Attached are the list of items and prices and details of how they will look, there are also images attached of most of the items.
I'll hopefully be at some of the training sessions with some samples of the kit, for you to try etc.
Ideally we'd like to get the order sorted in a week or so, so that you can have all your stash for the end of term dinner - which we're organising for Monday of 8th week (just thought I'd slip that one in!) so you can pop that in your diary - Ems and I will be sending an email out soon about that, so you can sign up for the meal.
Lots of Social and Stash love,
Sarah xx
Hello,
I just want to clarify the position on sparring:
So times are:
beginners 3pm prompt start
advanced 4 pm - be ready and warmed up with all kit on at 4pm; ie get there early.
These sessions are use it or loose it, so if they aren't well attended I'll just go back to the previous system. Note that if you want me to get you fights this year, and this includes varsity, I expect to see you at 2-3 sessions a week esp sparring.
I should point out to everyone that my finals are in 2.5 months so I don't have the time to wait for people, thats why we're having the clamp down on lateness. look forward to seeing everyone out on weds
Hi everyone
Training this week:
Monday: 6-7.30pm in the Main Sports Hall, for everyone
Friday: 5pm beginners/white belts; 6pm everyone else in the dojo
Saturday: 1230 Squad Training (Squad only - please check with Zac before attending); 1330 padwork for everyone in dojo
Sunday: 3pm sparring/beginners, 4pm sparring/advanced in rugby 5s courts
IMPORTANT:
** Social, Wednesday this week - 5th nov - fancy dress heroes and villains - meet 8pm st hilda's college bar (if you turn up you will be, er, rewarded [that may not be the right word] with the sight of me in a thoroughly embarrassing costume; I say no more for the moment).
** Sports Fed Ball - forty quid, a great evening, Thursday 7th week - a good bunch of us are going - so email beth wild and reserve your place! those of you who have reserved a ticket by email, please make sure you send your cheques off soon.
** All people who wish to train for the rest of the term/year MUST bring in their completed membership and licence forms this week, and take a new training card - after next week we will be checking who has joined properly, so don't forget!
FINALLY...
If you do arrive a bit early for the sessions, which of course with you all being super-keen means everyone, please make a start on getting the kit out of the shed so we can begin training on time. If you haven't done this before and don't know where the kit is, just find someone who has and get going! We are pretty full in each session at the moment which means bringing all the kit out. Same applies to putting it away - please don't disappear off at the end. If you just take one box or a few kick shields it makes a huge difference. Borna, let's not run before we walk - maybe just an on-time appearance as target for this week? Everyone else, get involved in kit-getting-out-and-putting-away.
Nick
Hey Guys,
Fourth week is fast approaching and in the in land of Oxford, fourth week blues threatens chaos....
**** Only YOU can save mankind!!!!! *****
Yes, it's your SUPER Social Secs here, leading you on a Lycra inspired mission to save Oxford in the fourth week of terror. Transform yourself into your favourite Superhero, or unleash your darker alter ego by releasing the inner villain. After all, where would Batman be without Catwoman? Or Superman without... erm... kryptonite?
[You get the picture]
So, go crazy, who knows, there might be prizes for most original costumes!! Yey prizes!!!
Saving the world can be thirsty business - as us Social Secs well know - so come and wet your whistles down at *** St. Hilda's College Bar at 8pm *** for some warm up drinking games and general messiness!
After a couple of bars, we're going to hit **** LAVA&IGNITE (aka. ParkEnd), ****** to bust out some SUPER moves... oh yes!
The world's a pretty big place, so we need as many of you as possible! Even all you newbies... yes.. YOU! All details are helpfully on facebook:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=46342855630
WHAM!!! BAM!!!!
Super Sarah and Evillllll Emily!!!
p.s. If your telepathic mind powers are lacking then our mobile numbers are, give us a bell if you want to meet up with us later!!
Hi everyone
First, thanks to Sarah and Emily our glamorous social secretaries for organising a great social last week. It sets high expectations for the fancy dress bar crawl on Wednesday of 4th week (5th November).
Training times are:
Monday: 6pm, main sports hall, everyone - we will continue until 7.30
Friday: 5pm beginners/white belts; 6pm everyone else - dojo
Saturday: 1230 Sparring (arrive 1200 to get kit on and warm up); 1330 everyone else - dojo
Sunday: 3pm sparring (arrive 2.45 to get kit on, mats out etc)
We hope to put in an order for kit v soon - email philippa.clough@stcatz.ox.ac.uk if you would like a hoodie, t-shirt, polo short, kit bag etc - so we get a sense of what people want.
A couple of things we need to remind you of:
Existing members MUST renew their membership (and with it their licence) as we cannot allow people to train if they (and we) are not insured for them to do so. If everyone does this quickly then we will avoid having to check on people each session. You will get a new training card when you hand in your forms and cheque, your licence will come in the post later in the term. The two forms (membership and FSKA) are available from our website oukbc.org
New members - equally, please get the forms and cheque to a committee member as soon as possible, and start getting your training card signed each time.
EVERYONE please be aware that the start times for padwork sessions given above are start times, not arrival times. You should be ready with wraps on etc at those times. Don't be surprised if you are unable to join in a session if you arrive late (and that includes one minute past the specified time!).
PEOPLE WHO SPAR please read the message from Zac below carefully:
Sat 12.30 sessions - these are essentially our squad training sessions and I
expect everyone who wants to fight this year to attend regularly. As we only
have 1 hour, I expect everyone there at 12.30, warmed up and stretched with
their kit on. The dojo seems to be free before us so people can use it to warm
up in. I'm gonna operate a 2 strikes and you're out policy; 2 lots of lateness
mean you can't train in it for 2 weeks, and will make me rather less likely to
let you fight.
Sun 3 pm sessions - be ready to start at 3 with everything on but gloves and headguard; we'll do the warm up together; late comers will be doing rounds of press ups rather than rounds of sparring.
Nick
Hi everyone
A slight change to this week's training schedule (see **).
Monday 6pm everyone - as usual - in the main sports hall - far side of
the curtain (padwork)
Friday 5pm beginners, 6pm everyone else, in the dojo (padwork)
**Saturday 1230-1330 sparring - for those who have their own sparring
kit or who have already spoken to Zac about this
Saturday 1330-1430 padwork for everyone in dojo
Sunday 3pm sparring - if you haven't sparred with the club please talk
to Zac (the coach) beforehand; the club does have some kit you can
borrow if you are new to sparring - but you must have your own
pre-moulded gum shield
This term tends to be very busy, and so it is possible that, unfortunately, we will reach capacity in our training venues. If so we will work on a first come first served basis - all the more reason to turn up in good time (ie ready to start with wraps on, kit out etc at the specified time). If you are early please do help with getting the kit from the shed.
And don't forget this thursday's social, meeting at chequers off high st at 8pm then moving on from about 9pm to various other fun places.
If you are new to the sport, we strongly recommend you get some wrist wraps. We have some available for 5 pounds (cheques please if you can) or you can get them from JJB sports or similar places. Don't be scared to ask someone how to tie them properly! We also have trousers for fifteen quid, currently in reasonably good supply too.
We should be putting in an order for OUKBC clothes, bags etc this or next week - expect an email from Philippa our kit officer soon - probably sensible to have your cheque book and a pen with you so you can place your order when the time comes.
Hope to see you tonight or on thursday!
Nick
PS if you are receiving this email via the freshers' subscribe list please change over to our main list now, as taster sessions are over. simply email kickboxing-subscribe@maillist.ox.ac.uk
Hiya!
1) Here to say a big welcome to all you lovely Freshers and a welcome back to the old school members among you, we've organised a pubbing and clubbing night on **Thursday of 2nd week** - whoop! (I hear you say)
We'll be starting of at the **Chequers**, just of the high street at 8pm and we should be there for about an hour before moving on to college bars for cheap drinking. After that we'll move onto Cheapskates, the new Pulse night at **Escape**, so meet us there if you're just too busy for pre-drinks (However, we'll be taking note of non-attenders! :-)
Hopefully we'll be seeing a massive turn-out. Otherwise it'll be extra press-ups on Friday... just kidding (or are we?).
2) Also, make lots of space in your diary for **4th Week - Wednesday ** for our official Superhero fancy dress bar crawl and clubbing. Come as a famous superhero, or one of your own making. Prizes for best costume! (please keep it relatively decent... Luke)
Lots of kickboxing love,
Sarah & Emily xxx
~ Devoted Social Secs ~
Hello
I hope this finds you well and ready for a new term of training and fun
with OUKbC!
I've been asked to remind our external (non-uni) members that they will
have to renew their registration at Iffley Road for a modest £5 one-off
charge; member forms are available from the reception desk.
Our training times have been confirmed, and we are delighted to have
part of the main hall on Mondays, and the dojo on Fridays and Saturdays
(with some sparring on top of that!). We will confirm beginners/advanced
and specific times soon.
We are also very pleased to welcome a few members back this term as VIP
assistant instructors. They have been working hard over the summer, and
will be very important in ensuring the long term prospects for the club.
So, you must do as they say and obey their every word, just like you do
for Zac and myself. Seriously, they are really important to the club and
we are very grateful to them for their efforts.
We hope to bring in lots of new members this term, and Freshers' Fair
will be an important part of that. If you would like to support the club
by manning the stand, being smiley and getting people to come and give
it a go, please email Andy Duniec or me. You never know, there might be
an end-of-term reward like "most helpful Freshers' Fair stand
helper-outer" or some such pithy and parsimoniously phrased form of
recognition (with wine).
I had thought of writing something about members not being allowed to
train if it looks like they had too much fun over summer (eg. ridiculous
tans, amazingly toned, uber-fit etc.), but I thought better of it. So I
will no doubt see everyone there. Remember: training cards and belts are
IN (and ridiculous flame style trousers are OUT; yes I'm thinking of
you, Lucas).
If you have any suggestions or requests for socials (eg locations, fancy
dress themes, anything) then email me or Sarah Parlour or Emily Putz,
and we'll see what we can do.
Nick
PS I have also been asked by OUTriC to circulate information about
Triathlon. If you fancy giving it a go, then a taster will take place on
12th October, 200m swim and 3.5km run - about 30 mins (I wish!); it is
free. Their rep said you should 'give it a tri' but on the basis of the
pun, and the fact that kickboxing is better, I wouldn't bother (only
joking... or am I?).
Hi all!
If you are one of the Freshers and would like to receive updates about our training times and the Club's activities please send a blank email to kickboxing-freshers-subscribe[[at]]maillist.ox.ac.uk
If you would like to subscribe to our general mailing list please send a blank email to kickboxing-subscribe[[at]]maillist.ox.ac.uk
